Es Baluard Museu organises the public lecture “Coloniality and reification of life” by Rita Segato within the framework of “Contact Zone” programme.
The anthropologist, researcher, writer and feminist activist Rita Segato, emeritus professor at the University of Brasília, will reflect, through an intervention open to dialogue, on the possible incidences of the decolonial perspective on the understanding of violence, as well as the role of museums in this context. Segato’s work has addressed issues such as the contemporary consequences of the coloniality of power and new forms of violence against women.
Rita Segato proposes these and other reflections, in an activity open to the public, as the starting point for module 2 of the LAP (Laboratory of Art and Thought) programme in its second edition. With this module, titled «Environmentalisms: Imagining the Impossible», we aim to analyse how, through theory and practice, activism and cultural production, different proposals, approaches and collective mobilisations are developed that can generate alternatives and contribute to a socio-environmental transformation that places life at the centre.
“Contact Zone” is an annual training and research program that aims to explore the potential of artistic practice and cultural production as devices for intervention in social change. In its second edition, it presents the need to think contemporary complexity from five thematic axes: New institutionality, Environmentalisms, Feminisms, Borders and Works.
