Cómo hacer que la historia del arte importe hoy: de la Capilla Sixtina a RuPaul

During their first trip together to Rome, Bernardo Pajares and Juanra Sanz recorded and published an audio diary that was the germ of their most personal project, Arte compacto: a podcast on art history and diverse culture that often brings together its listeners in recordings in theaters, universities and museums. A project that has given a name to this duo of professionals who introduce us to a way of understanding art from an open and diverse perspective.

Later, in 2024, Bernardo and Juanra published Pasiones creativas. Parejas, tríos y líos de una noche que construyeron la Historia del Arte (Penguin). They will talk to us about this book in the talk, which opens the second part of the Art en pantalla cycle, which has as its title Cómo hacer que la historia del arte importe hoy: de la Capilla Sixtina a RuPaul. They will also recommend titles such as ¡Eres tan travesti! Breve historia del transformismo en España, by Anto Rodríguez, Historia de la homosexualidad masculina en Occidente, by Francisco Vázquez García and Nadie miraba hacia aquí. Un ensayo sobre arte y VIH/sida, by Andrea Galaxina, among many others that have been chosen for their relevance when addressing certain aspects within the broad spectrum of LGTBIQ+ themes in relation to art.

Art en pantalla II is a public programme to promote the reading and dissemination of the History of Art from multiple perspectives, which also addresses the dissemination of artistic content on social networks and other digital platforms. This second edition, initiated by Arte compacto, will feature during 2025 the participation of Miguel Ángel Hernández, Mayte Gómez Molina and Lorena Pérez-Jácome.

Juanra Sanz is an art historian and holds a Master’s degree in museums and cultural heritage from the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2012 he joined the temporary exhibition service at the Prado Museum. A few years later, while coordinating the assembly of the exhibition “Ribera. Maestro del dibujo”, he met Bernardo Pajares. He is currently part of the general coordination of the museum’s conservation.

Bernardo Pajares is an English philologist, with a Master’s degree in Radio from the Complutense University of Madrid, and is dedicated to communication. He is part of the social media team at the Museo del Prado, where he is in charge of creating videos for Instagram and TikTok. He wrote and directed the podcast of the Patria series for HBO and has collaborated on different programs on Radio Nacional de España and other media.
