Battle of bands ‘Lee Krasner’

The battle of the bands "Lee Krasner" connects Abstract Expressionism, contemporary art movement in the abstraction that was developed in the United States in the 40s, with the social and musical phenomenon that took place in this country during those years.
Lee Krasner (1908-1984) was an influential American artist of Abstract Expressionism. Led by Hans Hofmann, with whom she trained from 1937, she met the work of Picasso, Matisse and other European artists. In 1940, she began exhibiting with other Abstract Expressionists painters. Five years later, she married Jackson Pollock, belonging to the same artistic movement.
The battles of bands (or swing battles) were born in the late 30s, in full swing of the big swing bands. The most renowned orchestras of the scene pushed for workers in the same ballroom, the legendary Savoy Ballroom, located in New York Harlem. Each stood at one end of the room and played simultaneously (at that time there were no amplification systems for concerts) competing for the attention of the audience, mostly young 'lindy hop' dancers.
The Association Mallorca Swing carries out for the first time to the island this proposal: to recreate in the Aljub a battle of two bands in the same way as is currently done in some of the best swing festivals worldwide. The bands will be Monkey Doo and Long Time No Swing, two swing quartets with a repertoire of traditional songs. Two orchestras with a stylistic homogeneity and high level musicians.
