As part of Biennal B, we present a performative lecture by artist and researcher Irene de Andrés, the result of a residency at the Casa Planas art and creation center.

In her presentation, the artist offers a journey through the masks used in the four-color printing process that makes up the full-color postcards. These masks, printed on transparencies, had “Blau 2” written on the side and were used to give a more saturated tone to the sky and sea, aiming to create the desired holiday landscape. The buildings constructed on the beachfront, which in the 1970s were proudly showcased as examples of urban development for tourism, were silhouetted against these transparencies.

This performance is based on a look at the Casa Planas Foundation archive, focusing on Ibiza postcards, whose framing centers on the gleaming white apartment blocks and hotels. These architectural structures, in turn, engage in a dialogue with the fishermen and their traditional fishing boats (llaüts), offering a visual interplay between the traditional and the modern, a dynamic that emerged during the early stages of the tourism boom in Spain.
