Es Baluard Museu

SURVIVORS ON LIFE

Es Baluard museum is proud to present the AUDIOVISUAL VERSION, (CATALAN and CASTELLAN edition) of the extended exhibition SURVIVORS ON LIFE 1945 1995 as its premier in Spain.

Eva Choung-Fux created her art work with help of survivors-circles in Poland, Holland, Slovakia and Austria. The original exhibition consists of 500 b/w fine art photo portraits and text exhibits. The artist placed portraits of Holocaust survivors side by side with portraits of respectively 50 year younger persons. The spectator sees in the young person the age of the survivor at the moment of liberation.

The exhibition was internationally presented in 11 museums by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Holland, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia, China, Bosnia and Austria). It will become part of the martyr’s museum, the »Panstwowe Muzeum na Majdanku« (former extinction camp) in Majdanek, Poland.

Eva Choung-Fux has continued her engagement to the theme with directly related cycles of oil paintings and graphic art (created in S`Hort de Nigorra / Mallorca in the years 1995/96). In 2000 these cycles were included in the extended version of SURVIVORS ON LIFE 1945 1995 in the halls of the Shanghai Library Art Centre, as the Millennium Exhibition in Shanghai/China.

The National Art Museum of China in Beijing invited Eva Choung-Fux to participate at the “International Exhibition to commemorate the 60 Years of Victory over Fascism”. For this purpose the extended exhibition SURVIVORS ON LIFE 1945 1995 was digitalized and transformed into the audiovisual version (Chinese-edition) by the Filmstudio KunstWerkWien. For this first audiovisual version, Eva Choung-Fux received the »Award of the National Art Museum of China in Beijing 2005« (NAMOC).

The AUDIOVISUAL VERSION is based on the extended exhibition SURVIVORS ON LIFE 1945 1995. The photo portraits are displayed in pairs, together with their statements in English. They appear and keep fading in and out. Simultaneously one can hear in CATALAN or in CASTELLAN the authentic stories of survival, of strength and of love. The directly related cycles of oil paintings and graphic art accompany the sequences.
This audiovisual version (Catalan and Castellan) is the documental of the extended exhibition and is a prototype of the future multi-lingual-edition which will include 14 languages. SURVIVORS ON LIFE is to be considered as work in progress.

The soundtracks for the Catalan and Castellan edition where realised by the support of engaged friends on Mallorca. Eva Choung-Fux expresses her gratitude among others to Nieves Barber, Isabel Pérez, Paco Valdés, the Foundation ACA and the numerous volunteers who contributed with their voices.
