Jessica Stockholder studied painting at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), and completed a Master’s degree in painting and sculpture at Yale University (in 1984 and 1985, respectively). She has been awarded the First American Prize in Rome by the American Academy of Rome (1985), and the Lucelia Artist Award from the Smithsonian American Art Museum (2007).
She has exhibited in museums and institutions around the world, including the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou, Paris (2021); Centraal Museum, Utrecht (2019); SF MOMA, San Francisco (2014); Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield (2011); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2010); PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island (2006); CAPC, Musée d’art contemporain, Bordeaux (2003); Dia Art Foundation, New York (1995).
