One of the elements that Civera introduces into her works, becoming a constant theme after 1980, is the circle, either as the protagonist of the work or as a shape that helps her delimit and exalt her intimate narratives, as is recreated in the painting Con Jumba (2010). The female figure (inspired by images from the mass media or, as in this case, her daughter) is established as the centre of the composition, an intimate scene where we find that play on tensions so habitual in her, the bold woman, reinforcing her erotic side through semi-nudity but at the same time involves being a fragile, delicate woman.

Artist biography
Victoria Civera
Port de Sagunt, Valencia, 1955

The artist Victoria Civera has remained within the field of figuration since the ‘eighties, structuring her work around painting, photography and happenings, amongst other disciplines. After moving to New York in 1987, her work acquired a more intimate focus, and also incorporated new materials; she broadened her field of research towards other artistic media, specifically sculpture and installation, without abandoning the pictorial medium. In her works Civera mainly refers to the feminine universe, although not from a radical stance, but rather as the expression of feminine sexuality or sensuality, by means of fetishism, irony and even humour, for example.
