Es Baluard Museu presents its exhibition programme for 2026
The Board of Trustees of Fundació Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma presents the action plan for 2026, highlighting the Museum’s exhibition projects alongside new educational and public programme initiatives.
With more than two decades of history, Es Baluard Museu consolidates its position as a central institution in Balearic culture, strengthened in 2025 by the national recognition awarded by Fundación Contemporánea —through the Observatorio de la Cultura— which positioned the Museum as the main cultural reference of the archipelago and the only Balearic institution included in the national ranking.
EXHIBITIONS
In 2026, Es Baluard Museu will present an ambitious exhibition programme with a strong commitment to contemporary creation, particularly from perspectives developed by women artists at both international and local levels. The main proposals include:
– Fiona Rae, Ghada Amer and Ester Partegàs, three key figures in the international art scene who will occupy different spaces in the Museum and, in the case of Partegàs, also at CA2M, coproducer of the exhibition.
– Jannis Kounellis, whose recently opened exhibition, co-produced with CGAC, remains one of the major highlights at the beginning of the year.
– Artists from the Balearic context, such as Aina Albo Puigserver, popea, Mar Guerrero (with a joint project with Anna Talens at IVAM within the “Territorios en tránsito” series) and Marta Armengol, further strengthening the Museum’s commitment to the local creative context.
– The Museum also reinforces its commitment to women curators, both locally and nationally. In 2026, all Museum projects will be led by curators such as Carolina Grau, Bea Espejo, Blanca de la Torre, Cristina Anglada, Sofía Moisés, Alicia Ventura, Clara Garau and Ela Spalding.
The Museum further enhances its presence beyond its own walls through four exhibition projects carried out in collaboration with national institutions such as IVAM – Institut Valencià d’Art Modern, with the group exhibition A media lumbre (co-produced with Casal Solleric) and the “Territorios en tránsito” series; CA2M – Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, with the exhibition by Ester Partegàs; and CGAC – Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, with the project dedicated to Jannis Kounellis, inaugurated this December.
The Museum’s Collection will continue to play a central role. After reinstating its permanent gallery in 2025, the year 2026 will see its first revision from a performative perspective within the curatorial project “Nachleben. The Museum as a Performative Space”, curated by Iñaki Martínez Antelo together with Soad Houman and Pilar Rubí.
EDUCATION AND PUBLIC PROGRAMMES
Es Baluard Museu deepens its mission to become a space for learning, critical thinking and social encounter. In 2026:
- The Museum strengthens its incorporation into PLANEA. Art and School Network, acting as coordinating node in the Balearic Islands.
- It will launch the new Master’s in Creative Thinking and Strategic Design for Cultural Projects, in collaboration with ADEMA University School, aimed at training professionals capable of driving innovative and sustainable cultural projects.
- It will establish its own cycles dedicated to contemporary thinking and practice: Dimensión sonora, dedicated to sound art, and Registro de luz, focused on photographic theory and practice.
The Museum will continue to foster the participation of diverse communities -schools, families, young people, seniors and social groups- and reinforce its commitment to accessibility, sustainability and social impact.
BIENNAL B AND TERRITORIAL PROJECTS
Biennal B, one of the transformative pillars of the Museum’s new model, will continue to expand in 2026 through multiple lines of action: an international congress, workshops, exhibition projects and initiatives fostering collaboration between art, craft and contemporary social practices. These projects, carried out outside the Museum building, propose unprecedented collaborations with other Balearic institutions.
The year will begin with the 1st International Congress on Art, Culture and Science (30-31 January), bringing together leading voices from both fields at a time when the boundaries between art and science are becoming increasingly permeable.
A 2026 TO CONSOLIDATE AN EMPATHETIC, OPEN AND COMMITTED MUSEUM
Es Baluard Museu approaches 2026 with the aim of strengthening its role as an empathetic museum, capable of communicating the relevance of art and its values to society as a whole. The institution continues to progress toward becoming an essential cultural agent, both for the quality of its exhibitions and for its capacity to connect territories, people and knowledge.
