With the exhibition “In Private 1”, Es Baluard begins a cycle dedicated to art collecting on the Balearics or connected to the islands in some way. Private collecting was and is one of the great driving forces behind art, an activator of commerce but at the same time an indisputable support of artistic creation. The “In Private” cycle comes into being with a will to recognise the collecting that takes place on our islands and at the same time support artists.
The selection put forward in this first exhibition by Cristina Ros, the director of Es Baluard, offers us a very broad panoramic view of the theme of photography produced between the decade of the ‘90s and the present, through the twenty-five works that come from private collections.
The influence of the new technologies in today’s society by Michael Najjar; the more plastic side of architecture by Ola Kolehmainen, Candida Höfer and José Manuel Ballester; an objective vision of privacy by Nan Goldin; the social condemnation of Santiago Sierra and Vanessa Beecroft or photography as a document and testimony of performances like those carried out by Zhang Huan, are some of the paths chosen by the artists proposed for "In Private 1".
The exhibition coincides with the programme “Palma Photo 08” organised by the Association of Contemporary Gallery-Owners “Art Palma”.
