As part of the Biennal B programme, and under the artistic direction of Joan Punyet Miró, we present the project “About Antònia Font”. Music and poetry in the Catalan language come front and centre for this event, which will take place in L’Aljub, at Es Baluard Museu.

While the name Antònia Font is linked to the Majorcan pop-rock band, Antònia Font herself was in fact a friend of the group, as well as being their muse. She is a teacher of Catalan Language at a secondary school, and has always had a close connection to poetry, besides being a recognised rhapsodist. Her dedication to artistic expression has a visual aspect as well, as seen by the sixteen collages made in the summer of 2023, which link to her personal, dreamlike universe.

Antònia Font’s interior cartographies, expressed on paper in collage format, are presented along with a selection of handwritten poems by sixteen other writers: Àngel Terron, Àngels Moreno, Anna Gual, Blanca Llum Vidal, Eva Tur, Jaume C. Pons Alorda, Joan Pons Angels, Lluís Calvo, Lucia Pietrelli, Marçal Font i Espí, Miquel Àngel Adrover, Miquel Cardell, Raquel Santanera, Ricard Martínez Pinyol, Susanna Rafart and Vicenç Altaió. The participating poets represent, both in age and origin, the current state of Catalan language poetry. This is an unprecedented, diachronic poetry anthology, created specifically for this occasion.

The exhibition design is enhanced by the voice of Antònia herself, who has created the original soundtrack of the video that accompanies the work, together with the musician Jaume Manresa. On opening night, Wednesday 14 January, there will be a short concert with new musical works, composed and performed by Font and Manresa.

In connection with the project “About Antònia Font”, on Thursday 15 January the museum will host a symposium entitled Synergies Between Art, Music and Poetry in Contemporary Culture in Catalan. It features the participation of Pere Perelló, Blanca Llum Vidal, Jaume Manresa, Antònia Font and Joan Punyet Miró, and is moderated by Vicenç Altaió. Punyet and Altaió have written the prologue for the publication that will be presented that same day. The book reproduces the images and the present poetry anthology seen in the exhibition, along with a text by Pere Perelló that explores the creative roots of this project.
