Esher, United Kingdom, 1945

David Nash lives and works in Wales and was one of the founders of land art in Great Britain. Interested in ecology and the environment, he has gone from direct interventions on land to working with wood, in research on the morphology of trees, their natural characteristics and the mutations of wood, a material that he chops, burns or perforates to produce the desired effect. His work has been on display, among other places, at the Serpentine Gallery, London (1991), the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom (1991), the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh (1991), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Santa Monica, Los Angeles (1994), the Nagoya City Art Museum, Japan (1994), the Palau de la Virreina, Barcelona (1995), and the Kunsthalle Mannheim, Germany (2008, 2009). His work is present in the followings collections: Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Museo de Arte Moderno in Caracas, Tate Gallery of London, Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York and Museum of Contemporary Art of Tokyo, among others. David Nash was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1999.
