Artist biography
Robert Cahen
(Valence, France, 1945)
Robert Cahen lives and works in Strasbourg. Trained as a director and composer, he is one of the most relevant figures in video art, whose work has been developed mainly based on experimentation and the use of electronic instruments in art. After studying concrete music composition at the Research Department of the ORTF (with Michel Chion, among others), in 1971 he became the composer of the ORTF Musical Research Group. From the ‘seventies on, he adopted the videographic medium as a field of experimentation, applying resources from concrete music.
