Artist biography
Antoni Socías
Inca, Mallorca, 1955

Antoni Socías lives and works in Mallorca. A multidisciplinary artist, he works with sculpture, photography, installations, objects, video and graphic design. He began his artistic career in the mid-1970s and throughout it, his work has reflected the process per se. In the late 1970s, his painting entered the realm of hyperrealism, although its framing and fragmented scenes shifted away from reality. In the early 1980s, he evolved towards figurative expressionism, to later experiment with land art; he subsequently began to address concepts such as order-disorder, construction-destruction and speculations on the accumulation of images. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Casa de Cultura in Ibiza (1984), La Llonja in a joint exhibition with Luis Pérez-Mínguez (1989), Casal Solleric in Palma (2000), Centre de Cultura “Sa Nostra” in Palma (2005) and at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma (2011). He has participated in art fairs in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne, Los Angeles and Madrid, as well as the Twenty-Fourth São Paulo Biennale (1998).
