“Crossed landscapes” lends continuity to a series of “Views of Es Baluard’s Collection”, initiated with the exhibition “The 1980s and its offshoots” between the month of September 2008 and January of 2009, an indication of the museum’s will to offer partial studies of its permanent collection in the form of temporary exhibitions, providing all its visitors with the chance to discover the wealth and capacity of diverse interpretations within the reserves of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma.

With the range offered by the concept of landscape, understood as a space for observation from different perspectives, “Crossed Landscapes. View’s of Es Baluard’s Collection” leaves linear awareness to one side and detaches itself from any chronologies to present a new way of looking at our museum’s collection, a selection of its works divided into three areas, each of which highlights the coexistence and dialogue between artistic stances that, at first sight, are, or appear to be, divergent. Comparisons between languages, styles, artists, or between the past and the present, are found in “Modernism and Postmodernity”, “Poetics and Construction” and “The Individual and Collectivity”, three areas with crossed lines and, at the same time, three spaces full of points of convergence or of meeting points at crossroads.

The exhibition, which occupies a large part of Floor 0 and Floor -1, brings together some 65 works by more than 40 artists, most of which are part of Es Baluard’s own collection, although some are temporary loans from other institutions, companies and private collections. “Crossed Landscapes. Views of Es Baluard’s Collection” gathers together works by Marina Abramović, Helena Almeida, Anglada-Camarasa, Miquel Barceló, Per Barclay, Christian Boltanski, Joan-Ramon Bonet, José Manuel Broto, Miguel Ángel Campano, Ramon Canet, Pepe Cañabate, Maria Carbonero, Anthony Caro, Toni Catany, Ñaco Fabré, Alberto García-Alix, Antoni Gelabert, Luis Gordillo, Rebecca Horn, Alfredo Jaar, Pierre Gonnord, Anselm Kiefer, Imi Knoebel, Jason Martin, Joaquim Mir, Joan Morey, Santiago Rusiñol, José María Sicilia, Joaquin Sorolla and Juan Uslé, among others.
