Es Baluard Museu is hosting a performance reading titled Tiende la belleza a la esfericidad (Beauty Tends Toward Sphericity). This activity, linked to the exhibition “Olimpia Velasco. Claros del bosque (Bell-ver)” will be led by writer José Vidal Valicourt.
The performance will bring into mutual resonance the motifs and themes connecting the poetic philosophy of María Zambrano with Olimpia Velasco’s exhibition. Vidal Valicourt will read original texts throughout the exhibition space, including its Es Baluard Museu corridors and terraces.
The aim is for the spoken word to resonate, move through, and transform the Museum’s various spaces, traversing and immersing itself in Velasco’s work as well as in key concepts central to Zambrano’s poetics: the forest clearing as a center and place of contemplation; the metaphor of the heart and love as a driving force for thought and creation; the word as a seed penetrating the earth, awaiting germination and growth; and the void as a realm of possibility and a condition for beauty. All of this aligns with Zambrano’s concept of “poetic reason.”
Through the sound and projection of the spoken word—literally “with heart in hand”—the selected texts seek to engage in a dialogue with Olimpia Velasco’s artistic practice and María Zambrano’s poetic approach to philosophy.
José Vidal Valicourt holds a degree in Philosophy and a master’s degree in Contemporary Philosophy. Poetry and philosophy—branches of the same tree—coexist in his writing, always charged with the life-giving tension between Eros and Thanatos, alongside influences from cinema, jazz, and a form of psychogeographic poetics. In prose, he is the author of novellas such as El hombre que vio caer a Deleuze, Tomas falsas, Lisboa Song, Desaparecer en un solo de Coltrane, and La hora del lobo, as well as an essay on Maurice Blanchot titled Blanchot, el espacio del desastre. Notable among his poetry collections are Ruido de fondo, La casa de Mallarmé, Zona de nadie, and Meseta (translated into French as Le Plateau), among others.
