JULI RAMIS

On the centenary of the birth of Juli Ramis (Sóller 1909 – Palma 1990) Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma pays homage to this artist who demonstrated a restlessness and a constant desire to research languages and search for his own perspectives on modernity. “Juli Ramis visits Picasso, Marie Laurencin, Wifredo Lam, Wols, Archie Gittes, Joan Miró, André Masson, Nicolas de Staël, Poliakoff, Fautrier”, curated by Marta Sierra, aims to contextualise the figure of Ramis by visiting the work of the ten artists mentioned, with whom he had truly enriching personal relationships, above all from the artistic point of view, since in one way or another, they made a more or less profound mark on his work or opened up the doors to other relationships, the knowledge of other languages or paths to be followed.

“Juli Ramis visits Picasso, Marie Laurencin, Wifredo Lam, Wols, Archie Gittes, Joan Miró, André Masson, Nicolas de Staël, Poliakoff, Fautrier” has a vocation for reunion which, with the passage of time, through this new exhibitive interpretation, allows for an analysis of the importance of the work of Juli Ramis in a context of modernity far removed from, and well before the time and society of the island he was born on.

The exhibition brings together 36 works from private collections and institutions within Spain and from abroad, along with works from the museum’s own permanent collection.
